Problem:

Bots and hackers are scanning your site, taking up bandwidth and possibly obtaining information they can use to hack your store.

Solution:

The "IP Blocker Patch" is an osCommerce 2.2 add-on that will recognize these ill-behaved users and log their IP addresses. Once logged, any user from that IP address will be automatically be redirected to a 'blocked' page and only that page will be accessible to them.

"Bad Bots" are recognized when they access a file in a specific directory. Once there, the IP address of the user is added to a file and an optional email is sent to you notifying you of the newly blocked IP. The user is redirected to a blocked IP page and from that point on, that's the only page they will see.

Upon processing each page of your site, the user's IP address is checked against the list of blocked IP addresses and if the IP is found in the list they will always be redirected to the blocked IP page.

Additionally, there is a "lure" that will guide bad bots and crawlers into the trap directory. Since only the ill-behaved bots and crawlers will recognize the lure as something to follow, they will be blocked. Well-behaved bots will not follow the lure and will not be blocked.

This fix is compatible with PHP v4.x and above and all versions of MySQL.
